Art and Design.

God

In Art and Design, we further explore God’s wonderful world.  We study how the human form is represented in his image.  We see the various ways in which artists represent God and his teachings.

Resilience and Retention

In Art and Design, we work on pieces of art over time.  We draft and re-draft pieces of work to develop our mastery of different techniques.  We retain knowledge to build on it in future academic years.

Aspiration and Application

In Art and Design, we develop our skills with different techniques and master them.  We learn more about artists to build our aspirations.  We apply our knowledge to influence our developing abilities.

Core Purpose

(Vocabulary)

In Art and Design, we introduce new vocabulary within our lessons.  We use ambitious word choices that help us to describe artwork and artists.  We take time to discuss our own work and the work of others.

Equality and Engagement

In Art and Design, we use techniques that ensure that there are equal opportunities for all.  We know that all artists have their own individual style.  We are engaged in mastering new techniques and skills.

Art & Design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences, and a special way of understanding and responding to the world. It enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think, through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes.
Children become involved in shaping their environments through art and design activities. They learn to make informed judgments and aesthetic ad practical decisions. They explore ideas and meanings through the work of artists and designers. Through learning about the roles and functions of art, they can explore the impact it has had on contemporary life and on different periods and cultures. The appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts enriches all of our lives.
The objectives of Art & Design:
- To enable children to record from first-hand experience and imagination
- To develop creativity and imagination through a range of activities
- To improve children’s techniques and ability to control tools and materials.
- To increase their awareness of the role and purpose of art and design in different
times and cultures.
- To develop increasing confidence in the use of visual and tactile elements and
materials.
- To foster enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts, and a knowledge of
artists, craftspeople and designers.
